Grant Piggott Sailing Experience
Grant’s sailing career started as a young boy in 1976, on an assortment of dinghies following in the footsteps of his father Brian, who was an accomplished boat builder and a respected catamaran helmsman.
He quickly progressed to his first catamaran, a Condor, and worked his way up to the 1984 Tornado Olympic squad. He went on from there to win several National and European championships in a variety of catamaran classes. He has won Eurocat at Carnac on a Spitfire and has also competed successfully in many yacht races including Cowes week, Burnham week and Ramsgate week on a wide variety of sailing craft.
Grant holds the 'Round the Island Record' on a Firebird catamaran in 4 hours and 33 minutes, with sails he made whilst working at ‘White Sails’. Grant has won 23 National and European Championships.
Grant Piggott Sailmaking Experience
Grant has been sailmaking for many years, having started at Dolphin sails in 1980 where he worked until 1995. He then moved to Hyde Sails at Burnham where he swiftly progressed to managing the 'offshore’ sail loft. In 2002 he went to work with Jerry White at White sails where he stayed until 2005. Grant is familiar with all aspects of sailmaking, has a wealth of experience to call upon, and no job is too big or too small! Grant recently worked out that over his sailmaking career he has made over 50 000 sails!
GP Sails Company History
After having been made redundant for the second time due to sail production moving abroad, Grant decided to take matters into his own hands and set up GP Sails. Grant then took on the sail loft where he previously worked enabling GP Sails to expand on its service. Customers can have their 'sails made locally' and Grant can undertake orders for new sails, repair work and service work. Customers receive a personal and tailor-made service with all works done by GP Sails friendly and knowledgeable staff.
